Homemade VS Readymade white clay dough ornaments

Hi Everyone,

I started to decorate my home for Christmas. I made white ornaments this time. I wanted to try the ready made and home made clay dough as well. Let's see the result:

From a shop: 

A new hobby shop opened in the town, where I found a pretty expensive ready made clay. It was so easy to use, but when I cut the shapes, the edges were too rough, had to refine them with nail file. These ornaments are not bright white.

Aloitin tehdä muutamia valkoisia joulukoristeita. Ostin kaupungin uudesta askartelukauppasta valmiin muovailuvahan ja myös tein kotona itse muovailuvahaa omalla reseptillä. Kaupasta ostettu muovailuvaha oli kallis, mutta oli todella helppo käyttää, vaikka se materiaali ei ole ihan puhtaan valkoinen. Ongelma oli että, kun koristeet olivat kuivanneet, reunat olivat huonot, minun täytyi korjata reunoja kynsiviilan.

From home:

My home made recipe for a very shiny white clay  is really easy to make.

• 1 cup baking soda 
• 1/2 cup corn starch (potato in Finland, what else? :-)
• 3/4 cup of water

Mix dry ingredients in a cooking pot, and add water.  Stir over medium heat until it starts bubbling and pulling away from the sides of the pot.  It will begin to form a substance similar to play dough, and that’s when you remove it from the heat. It should look like as a hard mashed potato. Cover it immediately and let it cool down. Than take a rolling pin and form with using your cookie cutters. Make holes with the drinking straws. Finally or before cutting - decorate it as your own taste. Let it drying for few days.....

Oma resepti:
Se on todella raikkaan valkoinen ja helppo tehdä.

• 1 kuppi soodaa
• 1/2 kuppi perunajauhoa
• 3/4 kuppia vettä 

Sekoita sooda ja perunajauho kattilassa, lisää vettä. Keitä muutama minuutti koko ajan sekoittaen. Kun se näyttää kovalta perunamuusilta, se on valmis. Peitä heti ettei kuivaa. Kun se on jäähtynyt, kauli se ohueksi ja tee haluttuja muotoja. Anna sen kuivaa muutama päivä.

Hi Everyone!

Today I made my first little crochet angels! There are many pattern available, it was so difficult to choose the one I really like.  My first angels I made according to Hungarian pattern -  however I haven't totally followed it, I made arms and neck bit differently, and they look skinnier. These are simple and so lovely angels. Thanks a lot kreaMojza !

Tänään tein ensimmäiset virkatut enkelini. Enkelimalleja on paljon, joten oli vähän vaikea valita oma suosikkini. Ensimmäiset tein erään unkarilaisen mallin mukaan - en kuitenkaan täysin noudattanut sitä, tein käsivarret ja  kaulan hieman eri tavalla, ja ne näyttävät hoikemmilta. Yksinkertaisia ja mukavannäköisiä enkeleitä. Paljon kiitoksia kreaMojzalle!

 Actually this is my favourite photo where angels are keeping each other hands. Isn't it sweet?

Yesterday I finished a crochet doily, and I made this crochet angel of a leftover yarn.

Eilen virkkauslankani oli loppumassa, joten tein tämän virkatun enkelin langanlopusta.

Crochet snowflakes. Virkatut lumihiutaleet.

These snowflakes look absolutely stunning decorating projects or simply as a hanging decoration in their own right. I decorated the windows with them as well, but also look good on the wall.

I love the shadow play as sun was shining to the room.

Nämä lumihiutaleet näyttävät mukavilta koristeilta ja niitä voi myös ripustaa roikkumaan. Olen laittanut niitä myös ikkunoihin, mutta yhtä hyvin ne sopivat myös seinälle. Auringon paistaessa ne luovat myös mukavia varjoja.

I love them that much, so I have made a lot of it. This snowflake was my favourite last year an it is still this year. 

Pidän lumihiutaleista paljon, joten olen tehnyt niitä paljon. Kuvassa viimevuotinen suosikkini, joka on sitä edelleen.

These lovely crocheted snowflake crafts are perfect for the cold winter months and they never melt.... :-)

Nämä mukavat virkatut lumihiutalekäsityöt ovat täydellisiä kylmiä talvikuukausia varten ja ne eivät koskaan sula.... :-)

Christmas pinecone crafts. Jouluaskartelu.

Hello Everyone!

There are pinecone everywhere (in Finland), we hardly notice them, but the way you can decorate with them is endless. So let's do something with it! Here are some creative and easy ways to bring awesome nature home for the Christmas and long winter.

Suomi on pullollaan käpyjä, tuskin edes huomaamme niitä, mutta kävyistä tehtävien koristeiden lista on loputon. Tehdään jotain niistä! Alla joitakin luovia ja helppoja luonnonkoristeideoita jouluksi ja talveksi.

1. Crafts for kids: Pine cone babies! I think these are adorable and very easy to make.

1. Askartelua lapsille: käpyvauvat! Oikein mukavia ja helppoja tehdä.

2. Golden pine cones. Make it feel like home. Go out, get some pine cones, if you use them inside then prepare them in the oven, put some gold spray on it, place it to (Ikea) vase, what otherwise you do not use very often. You are ready. :-)

2. Kultaiset kävyt. Sopii kotiin. Kerää muutamia käpyjä. Jos laitat ne sisälle, kuivaa niitä vähän uunissa, maalaa kultaspraylla, laita ruukkuun. Olet valmis :-)

 3. Candles in jars. Cheapest idea ever, and love reusing jars.

3. Kynttilöitä lasipurkeissa. Halvin idea koskaan ja helppo tapa uudelleenkäyttää tyhjiä lasipurkkeja.

4. Pine cone as a Christmas tree.

4. Joulukuusikäpy.

5. Pine cone ball! Not only for Christmas. This project made with a styrofoam ball, pine cones, hot glue and snow spray.

5. Käpypallo! Ei pelkästään jouluksi. Tämä tehtiin kävyistä, kuumasta liimasta ja kumispraysta.

6.  Take them back to the tree! Isn't it fabulous?

 7.  DIY pine cone wreaths are a classic way to incorporate pine cones into your homemade Christmas decorations. Just because a Christmas craft is inspired by nature doesn't mean it can't be glamorous.

7. Tee se itse käpykranssi on klassinen tapa yhdistää kävyt joulukoristeeksi. Vaikka koriste on suoraan luonnosta ei tarkoita, etteikö se voisi olla edustava.
