Back to basics, knitted socks - Villasukat

Hi Everyone!

The very first thing I knew about Finland, that it is cold here - because it is in the north. The very first thing I recognized when I first visited here that my feet were freezing -because it was winter. In the first winter here I got to know Finns knits they own wool socks - because it is a very good thing and they need it indeed. 

And a great invention. In ancient times, socks were made from leather or matted animal hair. In the 16th century hand knitted socks were made first. So people had time to figure out enough patterns. :-) 

I have recognized in Finland it is very important what woolen socks you are wearing in the winter. It is like a competition. It is important who has the prettiest, most complicated pattern, or the who has the trendiest. The options of patterns and colors are huge. Sometimes I am amazed, what a miracle socks were knitted again and again. I can make already basic socks and it is time to try something else. :-)

Do not forget: mind what socks you wear because it says about your personality!

Ensimmäinen Suomesta oppimani asia oli, että täällä on kylmä  - koska maa sijaitsee pohjoisessa. Ensimmäinen juttu mitä huomasin Suomessa oli, että minun jalkani olivat kylmät - silloin oli talvi. Ensimmäinen talvena sain tietää että suomalaiset neulovat omat sukat - koska se on todella hieno juttu ja niitä varmasti tarvitaan.

Ja mahtava keksintökin. Muinaisaikana sukat oli tehty nahasta tai eläimen karvasta. 1500-luvulla on tehty ensimmäiset neulotut sukat. Ihmisille oli tarpeeksi aikaa keksiä monta ohjetta. :-)

Olen huomannut, että Suomessa on todella tärkeää, millaiset villasukat ovat päällä talvella. Se on kuin kilpailu. On tärkeä, kenellä on kaunein˛/monimutkaisin/trendikkäin jne. sukat.

Sukkien mahdollisia värejä ja malleja on todella paljon. Joskus ihmettelen mitkä kauniit sukat tuli tehty taas. Pystyn tekemään perussukat, olen harjoitellut tarpeeksi, nyt on aika yrittää jotakin muutakin. :-)

Ethän unohda: on tärkeä millainen sukka sinulla on päällä koska se kertoo persoonallisuudesta!

Crocheted clown - Virkattu klovni

Hi Everyone,

It's been a long time I haven't post on the blog, but it doesn't mean I was lazy. My hooks are still warm of the work I made since cool weather hit to Finland, and it is just the beginning of the long winter. Finns calls it as autumn, but I have my own opinion.

Since I took my son to a circus, he loves clowns. I think human artists and funny clowns belong to circus. Luckily we met only very funny clowns since then, so love is unbroken. When last time we were travelling by ferry we met an extreme funny clown, and of course he was Hungarian. He was teaching me as well how to twist a plate.  I would not give a plate to this guy's hand, but a balloon.

Pitkään aikaan en ole päivittänyt blogiani, mutta minun puikkoni ovat olleet lämpivät - en ole ollut laiska. Nyt on aika virkata, koska on niin kylmä ulkona, talvi on jo alkanut. Suomalaiset sanovat, että on syksy, mutta minä olen eri mieltä. 

Siitä lähtien kun vein poikani sirkukseen, hän on pitänyt pelleistä. Minun mielestäni ihmisartistit ja hauskat pellet kuuluvat sirkukseen. Onneksi olemme tavanneet vain hauskoja pellejä sen jälkeen, joten rakkaus sirkukseen ja pelleihin on rikkomaton. Viimeksi laivalla ollessamme tapasimme erään erittäin hauskan pellen, ja hän oli unkarilainen. Pelle opetti myös minulle, miten pyörittää lautasta. En antaisi lautasta kuvan pellelle, vaan ilmapallon.

 

I think his hair makes him even funnier. Similarity with a human is just a coincidence! :-)
Luulen että nämä hiukset tekevät hänestä jopa hauskemman. Yhtenäisyys ihmisen kanssa on vain sattuma:-)

Autumn decoration - leaves and wreath. Syyskoristeet - lehdet ja kranssi.

Hi Everyone!

Rainy days are also have many advantages. For example excellent time to crochet. Recently I have been busy with autumn decoration. Previously I made lovely crocheted pumpkins, you can see them here. 

I love wreaths and I love to crochet… so I crocheted a fall wreath for our front door.

Autumn decoration - pumpkins. Syyskoristeet - kurpitsat.

Hello Everyone!

We have so beautiful autumn days and the great colors inspiring us to copy the nature time to time. The amazing colors and the scent of grapes, pumpkins, apples and quince in my parents garden makes me love fall that much. As I am not that crazy (yet) of crocheting a bunch of grapes! I made my own pumpkins. If I had known it was that easy........ :-)

Meillä on kauniit syyspäivät ja ihanat värit antavat inspiraatiota kopioida luontoa. Tykkän syksystä koska on mahtavat värit kaikkialla, ja muistan miten ihanalta tuoksuu viinirypäleet, kurpitsat, omenat ja kvittenit minun vanhempieni pihalla. En ole riittävän hullu (vielä) virkkaamaan viinirypäleitä. Tein omat kurpitsani. Jos olisin tiennyt kuinka helppoa se on..... :-)

And the pattern: first you have to crochet a ball. To create a pumpkin shape, use a tapestry needle to pull the tail through the center of the pumpkin, wrap the yarn around the side, and pull back through the center 4-8 times as you like.

Ja ohje: ensin virkkaa pallo, sitten tee viipaleet neulalla ja langalla.

Red butterfly table cloth + crochet border pattern. Perhospöytäliina ja ohje.

Hello Everyone,

I bought some hobby textile in Budapest some month ago, and when I got back to Finland I recognized few things were missing from my luggage.... for example the same butterfly textile below, but in black and white color! Thief surely likes butterflies, or handicraft or just loves stealing whatever he can reach. So annoying thing. Since then I use belts and folio and other safety actions to protect my belonging when I travel. It was not the first time in Budapest, and hopefully it wont happen again. 

Anyway I have the red beige textile, and I was thinking a lot what to do with that, I decided to sew it around and crochet a border for it to have a new table clothes. No surprises! :-)

Ostin muutama tekstiilit Budapestista vähän aikaisemmin, mutta kun tulin kotiin, huomasin että muutamia tavaroita puuttui laukustani... esimerkiksi sama perhostekstiili kuin kuvassa, mutta mustavalkoisena. Varas varmasti tykkäsi perhosista tai käsitöistä, tai halusi varastaa ihan muuten vaan. Todella ärsyttävä juttu. Sen jälkeen olen käyttänyt vöitä ja foliota laukkuni ympärillä, kun matkustan.

Joka tapauksessa minulla on nyt punainen kermanvärinen tekstiili, ompelin sen ympäri ja tein virkatun reunan. Nyt minulla on taas uusi pöytäliina. Ei yllätä! :-)

Minecraft Zombie

Hi Everyone!

My son asked me to crochet something to him. We agreed he will choose something what he wants and I will make it. I thought it will be a new puppy or a dragon or a funny hat or something like that. 

I had to crochet a Minecraft Zombie... Oh, my gosh!

I took a look for photos on the internet, so many made already zombies, I found a nice photo and made my own zombie with creating my own pattern. All the time during crocheting I was thinking how I got here? I started my crochet career with making nice doilies and table clothes, than other lovely things. Now I am here practically "forced" to crochet something I do not like at all. However this zombie is not ugly or scary.

Now he sleeps with it all the time. So he made me feel proud of this project!

Cannot wait for his next order...

Poikani halusi, että virkkaan hänelle jotakin. Sovimme että hän valitsee ihan mitä hän haluaa ja minä teen sen. Mietin, että hän varmasti tahtoo jonkun koiran tai lohikäärmeen tai jonkun hassun pipon tai jotakin sellaista.

Minulla oli pakko virkata Minecraft Zombie.... Voi että...

Katsoin kuvia netistä, onneksi monet ovat jo tehneet zombeja. Löysin hyvän kuvan ja tein oman zombien. Kun virkkasin zombieta, koko ajan mietin miten olen joutunut tähän tilanteeseen. Aloitin koko "virkkaus karrieerini" tekemällä kauniita pöytäliinoja ja muita kauniita/söpöjä juttuja. Nyt olen tässä tilanteessa ja käytännöllisesti minun oli pakko virkata jotakin mistä en tykkää yhtään. Vaikkei tämä zombie olekaan ruma tai pelottava.

Parhaillaan se on hänen unikaverinsa, poikani nukkuu Zombien kanssa (niin minäkin :-) ). Hän teki minut ylpeäksi tästä virkkauksesta. 

Vaikea veikata mitä hän tahtoo seuraavaksi.....

The umpteenth doily + pattern. Ties kuinka mones pöytäliina + ohje

Hello Everyone!

I had a short break of posting on my blog, but luckily my hands were not that lazy. This summer passed rapidly again, especially the summer in Finland was too short again. Never mind, we hope better for the next year! But I am not here chatting about the weather.

I made again a crochet doily - this time in white. I have many colors but I always turn back to the white color in so far the table clothes. I was wondering about what is the difference of having 10 or 100 crochet doilies? I guess 10 is love, 100 is addiction. No doubt I have a crochet addiction and long time ago I realized there are thousands of possibilities to crochet fantastic things not only doilies. But time to time I crochet a new doily for myself, however my doily storage drawer is pretty full already. My man would ask if do I need it, I would answer in his way: yes and no! I guess every addict knows what I mean.

Some says doilies are old fashioned and out-of-date, I say handmade with love and passion is always up to date, dear and amazing!

Minulla oli pikku tauko blogista, mutta käteni eivät ole olleet laiskat. Kesä meni Suomessa todella nopeasti, toivottavasti meille tulee vähän lämpimämpi kesä ensi vuonna. Mutta en halua jutella säästä, vaan käsityöstäni.

Virkkasin taas pöytäliinan - nyt valkoisen. Minulla on jo paljon erivärisiä pöytäliinoja, mutta aina teen valkoisen pöytäliinan uudelleen. Mietin mitä eroa on jos jollakin on 10 tai 100 virkattua pöytäliinaa? Arvaan että 10 tarkoittaa että tykkää liinoista, 100 tarkoittaa intohimoa liinoihin. Ei ole kysymys että olen himovirkkaaja. Huomasin jo kauan aikaa että on mahdollista virkata erilaisia juttua ei vain pöytäliinoja. Mutta ajoittain minulla on pakko virkata pöytäliina, vaikka minulla on jo paljon. Mieheni voi kysyä tarvitsenko niin paljon, voin vastata miten hän vastaa aina: kyllä ja ei! Arvaan että kaikki himovirkkaajat tietävät mitä tarkoitan.

Joku sanoo että virkattu pöytäliina ei ole moderni, ei ole kiva, minä sanon että rakkaudella tehty käsityö on aina muodikas, tärkeä ja ihana!
